St Lucia and the Pitons

All Caribbean islands are not created equal. St Lucia was a pleasant surprise with all of the beauty to see, and activities to do. An island free of oversized resorts, mega cruise ships and fast food chains, leaves St Lucia perfect in what made the Caribbean islands unique and exotic.

I was able to tour St Lucia with a group of luxury travel agents. I saw this St Lucia learning more about how to offer this to my clients for their vacations, honeymoons, destination weddings, and family getaways. After departing UVF , the driver told me much of the history of St Lucia. I recommend that you always have a private driver and hope you get one who knows the island like this one did. He made a stop along the way at a Creole bread stand where cars are parked along the road waiting for fresh bread to come out of stone ovens. Worth the 15-minute stop.

I stayed at The Body Holiday, imagine an all-inclusive property which includes a spa daily, built into the hillside so one view is better than the other, boutique in size but plenty of room, and some of the best all-inclusive food ever at their Tao Restaurant. Spa treatments are heavenly in private villas. The spa is perched way on a hill with breathtaking views. I would love to grab a group of girlfriends and do a girl’s getaway here.

Next I toured Cap Maison, Sandals and the Landings - each unique and geared towards a specific traveler. Many options for honeymooners and weddings at some, friend groups and incentives at others, and all perfect for romantic getaways. If I had to choose my favorite I have to say I enjoyed the spa, Tao and well appointed room at The Body Holiday; but Cap Maison captured my heart with small boutique size, attention to detail, gorgeous views, the wine tasting room, plus the intriguing stories from filming The Bachelor there. (Both Jake & Juan Pablo)

St Lucia Tourism Board hosted a beautiful day at sea.  We left Rodney Bay and cruised Marigot Bay. When in St Lucia, a boat ride is a must to see the mountains and the coastline. We swam in beautiful crystal blue waters and had an amazing day.

Next we head to the opposite side in Castries. A boat took me into Castries with its Creole vibe and then a short van ride to Dasheen at Ladera Resort a unique property off the beach in a gorgeous setting high in the mountains.

Off to Sugar Beach which was incredible. I absolutely adored everything. Relaxing cottage rooms tucked in coves with ultimate privacy, private pools, and unbelievable accommodations. The resort is nestled between Unesco World Heritage Gros Piton and Petit Piton giving it spectacular views. Highlights were open air dinner on the verandah at Sugar Beach, amazing food, wine and service, then the lounge turned into a small night club for dancing. Their property has a gorgeous beach with ocean side restaurants and shopping, plus a spa built in like a tree house.

Next we went by boat from the Sugar Beach to Anse Chastenet and the famous Jade Mountain. Anse Chastenet is quaint and unique. A true island vibe where the owners did an amazing job carving the rooms into nature where they feel like they are part of the landscape. Perfect for honeymoons and romantic adventures.

The absolute highlight of the evening was a tour of Jade Mountain with rooftop dinner. Jade rooms are three sided with one side open to the mountains, with private plunge pools. Designed in a way the cool breeze comes off the mountains, across the pool, turning into unique air conditioning. The ultimate in romance for honeymooners.

Dinner at Jade Mountain’s rooftop was spectacular. The chef is talented and combines all fresh items from the area and much is grown right on property. After dinner we were treated to a tour of their chocolate experience where they grow cacao on property and create chocolate for the resort.

On our final day, I took off for the sulphur springs mud baths for the medicinal healing and skin softening. Not an aroma I want to remember, but certainly an experience I won’t forget. Various degrees of hot mud and mud baths drawing all the toxins from your skin. This should be a must when visiting this area. You can also take a quick ride to the waterfalls and swim in the cool water there.

Since going to St Lucia, I have already sent several clients to visit for special birthdays, honeymoons, and getaways. Everyone has been over the moon happy with their decision.  There is something for everyone on this gorgeous little island with its natural beauty. St Lucia was named the World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination by the World Travel Award multiple times. No doubt why, but it would also be great for engagements, weddings, anniversaries, babymoons or vow renewals. Destination weddings are easy and stress free with rules being more lax than other islands.

I have certification as a St Lucia expert and a St Lucia Romance Specialist, and am happy I can add that I have been there as well.  It will be on my list to return to very soon!
